Before shot of living room

Before After
Demo begins:
1st thing was to get rid of the brick fireplace.
Reconstruction of the wall, Jeff had to use steel studs to bring the top of the fireplace down to fit with the Freeze. Then he insulated it and put up fire-rated 5/8 in drywall, followed by taping and mudding.
Drywall texturing was done then painted to match. You can see that the tile and carpet has been cleared off of the floor in preparation for the new prefinished oak flooring.
Jeff made custom wood vent covers to be flush with the floor.
When we got to the hearth Jeff laid Black Galaxy granite for the hearth framed it out with pieces of the oak flooring to accent the transition.
Then Jeff started the fireplace...
As you can see, Jeff used left-over pieces of the flooring to build the fireplace.
And made the accent trimming out of MDF.
Jeff used the same MDF and style to make trimmings for the windows and doors throughout the first floor
I think they match the fireplace nicely
Inlays of granite were used to incorporate the hearth…
…and used again to accent the mantel
Papering to prep for paint…
The finished product:
After all the trim was sprayed black to match the kitchen cabinets, the 1/4 in accents on the fireplace were painted the same color as the wall and the Freeze was reinstalled. Then, Kettie put the black outlets and switches with their covers on all of the junction boxes.
Jeff painted the trim in such a way that matched the distressing that Kettie had done on the kitchen cabinets.
